Karon beach is family friendly, it has a Flintstone-themed fun park (18 hole mini golf course), and it's easy to get around with its beaches and reserves.  There's also the Phuket Gibbon Rehabilitation Center, which is worth a visit.

Karon beach is one of Phuket's longest beaches, and is very popular due to the fine white sand. 

There are lots of hotels that are near the beach as well.  The north end has a relaxed feel, with fewer sunbathers.

Then there's the main area of bars and restaurants, with some lovely views from the cliffs a little further away that overlook the north end of the bay.
